Design Engineer – Hydraulic Cylinders
Job Description:
This position is responsible for designing hydraulic cylinders to meet customer requirements for performance, quality, and delivery while ensuring Engineering standards for safety, quality, and manufacturability. They will work collaboratively to resolve customer concerns and internal issues as they arise.
Job Responsibilities:
- Design hydraulic cylinders using applied engineering principles and design data to ensure quality and manufacturability requirements.
- Verify and validate products and designs by developing test plans then implementing and tracking results. Through analysis, determine and optimize appropriate designs.
- Identify and recommend improvements to designs then take appropriate action to implement.
- Collaborate with other departments such as Sales, Product Management, and Production to meet company goals for quality, customer service, safety, and cost.
- Provide Production, Purchasing, Production Engineering, and Planning with information and documentation required to produce products.
- Research new solutions, components and methods, providing recommendations and implementing where appropriate.
- Interact with customers to develop solutions and provide technical support where needed.
- Conduct all activities and execute all duties with enthusiasm and a positive, results-focused attitude.
- Support company initiatives and policies enthusiastically.
- Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
Education Required:
- Ideal candidate will possess a BSc, Mechanical Engineering degree and hold a valid Professional Engineering designation or eligibility to qualify for certification. Applicants with a diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology combined with applicable experience will also be considered.
- Training or education in hydraulic systems and fluid power systems is an asset.
- Welding engineering certification from CWB is an asset.
Experience Required:
- 3 to 6 years of experience in designing mechanical components and equipment for mobile equipment, such as agricultural, mining and or construction equipment is required.
- Experience in designing hydraulic cylinders and related components for efficient manufacturing is preferred.
Skills and Attributes Required:
- Highly motivated, self-starter, capable of multi-tasking with demonstrated ability to adhere to tight schedules under minimal supervision.
- Outstanding problem solving skills.
- Dedicated to becoming increasingly knowledgeable on technical aspects of components, products, and their applications.
- Excellent communication skills, including verbal, written, and presentation.
- Proven ability to quickly understand customer requirements, formulate, evaluate and execute the most effective solution.
- Thorough knowledge of manufacturing processes.
- Proficient with solid modeling applications, ideally SolidWorks operating in PDM environment.
- Knowledge of geometric and dimensioning tolerancing.
- Proficient with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other common applications.
- Exposure to activity scheduling, project management and ERP usage is an asset.
