New Product Introduction Procurement Specialist – MET
Job Description:
The NPI (New Product Introduction) Procurement Specialist provides a pivotal role as the interface between prototyping, sample building, and production release activities. This position ensures the on-time material availability for prototype builds, setting up BOMs (Bills of Material), driving closure of material FAI (First Article Inspection), and transfer of complete material plans to Purchasing while developing sourcing strategies to ensure appropriate and competitive costing, delivery, and quality standards are met.
Job Responsibilities:
- Responsible for sourcing of all required components as per the BOM during new product development
- Attend NPI cross functional meetings and report on all BOM items to ensure build readiness and provide timely feedback of delivery, cost, and quality status of new components on behalf of Purchasing
- Prepare, issue, and evaluate RFQ`s and award new business in line with the overall sourcing strategy
- Responsible for tracking and report tooling spending on a regular basis for new product
- Support product team in prototype/sample build to manage the material sourcing transition of new products from prototype to mass production agreements
- Manage the material plan process by identifying critical path constraints, contingencies, and mitigations to achieve project objectives
- Initiate cost improvement initiatives for existing parts and strategy development with the Sourcing Manager for product families and implement accordingly
- Build, maintain and ensure timely and accurate data reporting and summaries on a regular basis including, but not limited to, open PO, tooling, and shortage reports basis to support the products and business for new parts purchasing and cost initiatives
- Create and maintain purchase orders
- Review ECRs (Engineering Change Requests) and postings
- Work with buyers to identify open PO liability
- Support Company initiatives and policies enthusiastically

Job Requirements:
Education and Experience Required:
- Minimum of 3+ years of experience in both a production role and an NPI procurement role capacity with thorough working knowledge in the manufacturing industry
- Post-secondary education within commerce, engineering, mechanical technology disciplines is strongly preferred
- A CSQP or SCMP designation considered an asset
Skills and Attributes Required:
- Ability to identify issues, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to negotiate effectively to obtain best prices and terms on products, materials, and services
- Work directly with the various engineering groups
- Solid time management, multitasking and organizational skills are critical to the position
- Demonstrated data management skills with experience in compiling and analyzing large Excel files
- Proficient with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other common applications
- Advanced communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to work in a dynamic & ambiguous fast-paced environment
- Ability to function well both individually and in a team environment
- Proven ability to maintain confidences and ensure strict confidentiality of information and records
